AC Milan claimed a crucial 1-0 victory in the Derby della Madonnina in matchday 28 of Serie A, with an unlikely match-winner emerging in the form of Pervis Estupiñán, who broke the deadlock with his first goal for the club in the 35th minute. It is the second time this season that Milan have beaten Inter by this scoreline.
The result means Milan have completed a league double over their city rivals for the first time since the 2010/11 title-winning campaign — the very season that marked Massimiliano Allegri's debut at the helm. The Rossoneri also remain unbeaten in their last seven derbies against the Nerazzurri, a run that includes five wins and two draws. Inter, who had been on an eight-game winning streak in Serie A heading into this fixture, last tasted defeat in the league back in November — and it was Milan who inflicted that loss too.
Allegri made just one change from the side that beat Cremonese 2-0, with Estupiñán slotting in as left midfielder in place of Davide Bartesaghi, who was left out due to a minor injury picked up in the previous match. Up front, the familiar partnership of Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leão was retained once again.
